Job Description

Job Purpose

To provide technical support in operating theatres and the Central Sterile Supplies Department (CSSD) by preparing and maintaining surgical instruments, sterilizing equipment, and ensuring a clean, safe, and efficient environment.

Duties and responsibilities

Reporting to the Nurse In-charge, Theatre, the position holder will be responsible for the following:

  1. Maintaining procedure room and operating theatre equipment to ensure a clean, safe, and efficient environment for patients and staff.

  2. Ensuring the operating room table and floor are sterilized and linen and rubbish are removed at the conclusion of each procedure.

  3. Collecting and returning all necessary equipment required for procedures.

  4. Sterilizing instruments and carrying out decontamination processes.

  5. Assembling operating instruments and sets.

  6. Wrapping items for sterilization.

  7. Storing sterile sets and packs appropriately.

  8. Issuing sterile sets and packs to operating room staff and maintaining accurate records.

  9. Providing assistance to staff with the movement of patients within the operating theatre and promoting patient safety at all times.

  10. Any other duty as may be assigned.

Job Specification

Key Qualifications and Experience Requirements

  1. Certificate in Theatre Technician course or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

  2. Proficiency in computer applications.

  3. Compliance with Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya.
