Job Description

Job Purpose

To provide laboratory services through the collection, analysis, and interpretation of samples for diagnosis, treatment, and disease prevention, while ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and professional standards.

 

Duties and responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Laboratory Services, the position holder will be responsible for the following:

  1. Implementing medical laboratory policies, standards, guidelines, and programs to ensure compliance and quality service delivery.

  2. Decontaminating working benches and maintaining a clean and safe laboratory environment.

  3. Receiving and scrutinizing laboratory requisition forms and specimens for accuracy and completeness.

  4. Preparing clients for specimen collection and ensuring proper labeling and registration of samples.

  5. Transferring specimens to designated sections for processing and analysis.

  6. Preparing reagents and ensuring their proper storage and handling.

  7. Examining specimens and conducting diagnostic tests in accordance with established protocols.

  8. Recording and reporting laboratory results accurately and promptly for clinical management.

  9. Dispatching results to relevant departments and healthcare providers.

  10. Preparing stains and issuing blood and blood products to peripheral health facilities.

  11. Storing blood products under specified conditions to maintain quality and safety.

  12. Any other duty as may be assigned.

Job Specification

Key Qualifications and Experience Requirements

  1. Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences or an equivalent qualification from an institution recognized by the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB).

  2. Registration Certificate issued by the KMLTTB.

  3. Valid practicing license from the KMLTTB.

  4. Proficiency in computer applications.

  5. Compliance with Chapter six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya.
