Job Description

Job Purpose

To provide pharmaceutical services by accurately dispensing medications, processing prescriptions, maintaining records and stock and educating patients on proper drug use.

Duties and responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Pharmacy, the position holder will be responsible for the following:

  1. Dispensing medications accurately and safely to patients in accordance with prescriptions.

  2. Receiving and interpreting prescriptions to ensure compliance with legal and professional standards.

  3. Recording prescriptions and maintaining accurate pharmacy records for accountability.

  4. Pre-packing and repacking medications and labeling them with clear usage instructions.

  5. Educating patients on proper drug usage, dosage, and potential side effects.

  6. Maintaining drug registers and inventory records to ensure stock accuracy.

  7. Conducting regular stock-taking of drugs and medicinal devices to prevent shortages or expiries.

  8. Consulting with pharmacists on complex drug-related issues..

  9. Any other duty as may be assigned.

Job Specification

Key Qualifications and Experience Requirements

  1. Diploma in Pharmacy or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution approved by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.

  2. Certificate of Registration as Pharmaceutical Technologists by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board.

  3. Valid practicing license from Pharmacy and Poisons Board.

  4. Proficiency in computer applications.

  5. Compliance with Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya.
