| Job Description | Job PurposeTo provide specialized nursing care to newborns in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) by monitoring vital signs, administering treatments, and supporting families to promote infant health and survival.Duties and responsibilitiesReporting to the Nurse In-Charge, NICU, the position holder will be responsible for the following: i. Providing specialized nursing care to critically ill and premature newborns in NICU, ensuring continuous monitoring and timely interventions. ii. Assessing and recording vital signs, oxygen saturation, and other clinical parameters to detect changes in the infant’s condition. iii. Administering prescribed medications, fluids, and nutrition accurately and safely, including parenteral and enteral feeding. iv. Operating and monitoring advanced neonatal equipment such as incubators, ventilators, and infusion pumps to maintain optimal care. v. Collaborating with neonatologists and multidisciplinary teams to implement individualized care plans for each infant. vi. Educating and supporting parents on neonatal care, breastfeeding, and discharge preparation to promote family-centered care. vii. Maintaining strict infection prevention and control measures within the NICU environment. viii. Documenting all nursing interventions, observations, and changes in patient status accurately in the Hospital Management Information System (HMIS). ix. Participating in neonatal resuscitation and emergency response procedures when required. x. Any other duty as may be assigned. |
| Job Specification | Key Qualifications and Experience Requirementsi. Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN)/Kenya Registered Nursing (KRN) from a recognized institution. ii. Higher Diploma in Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing, or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution. iii. Training certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) will be an added advantage. iv. Registration by the Nursing Council of Kenya. v. Valid practicing license as a Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse from the Nursing Council of Kenya. vi. Proficiency in computer applications. vii. Compliance with Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution.
