Job Description

Job Purpose

To provide advanced nursing care in the Catheterization Laboratory (Cath-lab) by assisting in procedures, monitoring patients, and ensuring safe and efficient operations during cardiac interventions.

Duties and responsibilities

Reporting to the Nurse In-Charge, Cath-Lab Unit, the position holder will be responsible for the following:

  1. Providing nursing care and support to patients during cardiac catheterization and related procedures.

  2. Administering prescribed medications and monitoring patients’ responses throughout procedures.

  1. Receiving, registering, recording and documenting patients’ information at the Cath-lab.

  2. Transferring referred patients from the Cath-lab unit for further diagnosis or specialized treatment in other units of the hospital

  3. Observing and documenting patients’ progress accurately and reporting changes to medical officers and specialists.

  4. Collaborating with other healthcare professionals to manage patients with complex cardiac conditions.

  5. Maintaining strict infection prevention and control measures within the Cath-lab environment.

  6. Ensuring proper preparation and safe handling of equipment and supplies for procedures.

  7. Participating in continuous professional development and quality improvement initiatives.

  8. Liaising with other healthcare staff in handling patients with multiple or complex medical conditions.

  9. Any other duties as may be assigned.

Job Specification

Key Qualifications and Experience Requirements

  1. Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN)/Kenya Registered Nursing (KRN) from a recognized institution.

  2. Higher Diploma in Critical Care Nursing, or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

  3. Training certificate in Catheterization Laboratory Nursing.

  4. Certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) will be an added advantage.

  5. Registration by the Nursing Council of Kenya.

  6. Valid practicing license as a Critical Care Nurse from the Nursing Council of Kenya.

  7. Proficiency in computer applications.

  8. Compliance with Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution.
