Job Description

Job Purpose

To provide comprehensive nursing care to pediatric patients by assessing, monitoring, and managing their health needs, administering treatments, and offering family-centered support to promote recovery, growth, and overall well-being in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

Duties and responsibilities

Reporting to the Nurse In-Charge, Paediatric Unit, the position holder will be responsible for the following:

  1. Providing comprehensive nursing care to pediatric patients in inpatient and outpatient settings, ensuring adherence to clinical protocols and safety standards.

  2. Assessing and monitoring pediatric patients’ health status, including vital signs, growth parameters, and developmental milestones.

  3. Administering prescribed medications, treatments, and vaccinations accurately and safely.

  4. Collaborating with pediatricians and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.

  5. Educating parents and caregivers on pediatric health, nutrition, medication adherence, and home care practices.

  6. Responding promptly to pediatric emergencies and participating in resuscitation and stabilization procedures when required.

  7. Maintaining strict infection prevention and control measures in pediatric care areas.

  8. Documenting all nursing interventions, observations, and patient progress accurately in the Hospital Management Information System (HMIS).

  9. Supporting pediatric patients and families emotionally and psychologically to promote holistic care.

  10. Any other duty as may be assigned.

Job Specification

Key Qualifications and Experience Requirements

  1. Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN)/Kenya Registered Nursing (KRN) from a recognized institution.

  2. Higher Diploma in Paediatric Nursing or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

  3. Training certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) will be an added advantage.

  4. Registration by the Nursing Council of Kenya.

  5. Valid practicing license as a Paediatric Nurse from the Nursing Council of Kenya.

  6. Proficiency in computer applications.

  7. Compliance with Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution.
